shake break bounce

I'm back in Denver and regularly scheduled life resumes tomorrow (although it will end again on Wednesday when I have to go to California). Today went pretty smoothly - I got up, showered, packed, and took care of a couple of tings around the house. Then I said farewell to [censored], and my parents drove me to the airport. The Des Moines airport continues to delight - I can stroll in from the entrance, up the escalator, be the only person in the TSA precheck line, and at my gate in approximately five minutes. I got there with plenty of time to spare, so I grabbed a snack and messed around with my writing for awhile.

The flight was mostly smooth and entirely uneventful; I wrote a little bit, but I mostly napped. When we landed, I retrieved my car and then stopped at Whole Foods on the way home. I tried a different one (downtown near Union Station) and I think I like it better than the Cherry Creek one - it's only ten minutes or so from my house when there's no downtown traffic, so that's a good discovery. When I got home, I ate a late lunch, sat on my couch doing nothing for a bit, and then spent a couple of hours scrambling to put my house in some semblance of order.

I'm now at the point where I'm pretty much unpacked (except for boxes lurking in corners of closets), and now it's just tidying / reorganizing / decorating. Of course, that phase can last forever. But I got it looking spiffy enough that I wasn't embarrassed to host my first guests - my friend Barbara, her daughter Kristen (who also works with me), and Barbara's husband Terry came over to hang out in my neighborhood. Barbara stopped over here on her way back from RWA, which I've gone to for over a decade - but it's a good thing I skipped this year, since I am glad I went home instead.

So, I gave them the full tour, and then we sat on my patio for awhile and had some snacks and mojitos while enjoying the space. Even though it's super hot here, the patio is nice in the late afternoon - it's shaded by the house, so it's actually pleasant out there. We eventually strolled down the street and ended up having dinner at El Camino. All in all it was a really good visit - too short, as always, but it was great to see Barbara, and I'm already looking forward to immersing myself with other writers in Tahoe in a couple of months.

We eventually parted ways, and I came home and cleaned the kitchen, emptied the dishwasher, took out the trash, did a load of laundry, etc. I also had to do a bit of day job work - I should have done way more, but that's a problem for tomorrow. Right now it's time for bed - goodnight!
